Penny Field School

"The staff in Raindrops have been amazing with our son since starting the school. They know him so well already and are very in tune with him. The nurses have helped us a lot with multiple things and are always there to help us with any issues. The lovely receptionist, always chats to our son when he arrives, he’s even got into the routine of clapping and waving when he hears her voice. We really appreciate everything everyone does for our son."

Penny Field School caters for children and young people (aged 3-19) with Complex and Multiple Learning Needs (CMLN). The school includes five classrooms and care suites with full tracking, a dedicated rebound room, hydrotherapy pool and sensory room. Our newly developed outside provision includes a wheelchair accessible roundabout and swing, sensory garden and greenhouse.
At Penny Field School we meet the needs of children and young people with complex and multiple learning disabilities. We have specialist staff who are well trained and experienced to support their medical and learning needs. This includes an inclusion nursing team on site full-time and a high level of speech and language and physiotherapist input as well. We have a hydrotherapy pool at Penny Field School and a sunken trampoline for Rebound Therapy and exercise.
We follow a topic based sensory curriculum in order to meet the varying needs of our pupils and have recently implemented a new assessment system that enables us to track progress in all areas of need (Cognition and Learning; Communication and Interaction; Social, Emotional and Mental Health; Sensory and/or Physical). We also ensure that students have access to various subject based interventions for literacy and numeracy (phonics, whole word reading, communication and interaction sessions Numicon etc). Opportunities are also given to learners to develop invaluable life-skills.
On-going training and advice from various professionals allows us to keep up-to-date with various strategies in order to engage pupils in their learning (intensive interaction, social integration, social stories, visual communication tools, PECS, Makaton signing, positive eye). We also ensure that we communicate well with parents and carers as we hold half termly events in school when parents are invited to observe teaching and learning in various classes. We also hold termly coffee mornings and parents evenings in order to share information about progress and attainment.
Penny Field School recently affiliated with the Special Olympics, helping to deliver their Motor Activity Training Programme for pupils.
