Sport on Saturday

In September the NWSILC Green Meadows are proud to be hosting the successfull 'Sport on Saturday' Club. This successful club has been running for over 15 years at St Mary's School, Menston.

The Sport on Saturday Club provides young disabled people with a wide range of both physical and learning disabilities, with the opportunity to participate in sport.  Age is no barrier and some have been members since the Club’s inception in 2001.

The aim of the club is to provide a safe environment where young people with disabilities can make friends and socialise whilst participating in sporting activities, enabling them to maintain their physical fitness.  Activities enjoyed include boccia and new age kurling which have been specifically designed for people with disabilities, but mainstream sports and games such as rounders, tennis, circuit training and volleyball are also played.  Some sessions are spent off site; riding adapted bikes at the John Charles Centre for Sport and Ten Pin Bowling, an activity enjoyed as part of the group’s Christmas and end of year celebrations.  The club is run by Year 12 Sports Leaders from St. Mary’s and there has been a real growth in their understanding of disability as well as the development of their leadership skills.
