Personal, Social and Health Education at the North West SILC

PSHE
We aim to develop an inclusive curriculum by:
- Setting suitable learning challenges
- Responding to pupils’ diverse learning needs by ensuring the curriculum is needs led and based upon their ability to access/understand the content.
- Including all learners by overcoming potential barriers to learning and assessment.
Sex Education and Drugs Education is included in our PSHE Education programme. There is naturally some overlap in the teaching of Citizenship, Religious Education, Careers and Science. The subjects are all strongly inter-linked and available to all pupils whatever their ability, appropriately differentiated.
Language/Literacy/Communication all contribute towards PSHE Education (i.e. interactive/reciprocal skills, turn taking, etc). Separate policies are in place for Religious Education, Health Education and Careers.
Promoting students’ personal and social development involves supporting and guiding them from dependent children into more independent young people who will in turn become better citizens. Sex and Relationships Education, Drugs Education, Safety and Self-help skills have separate planning grids and are covered on a carousel. This enables us to avoid duplication and ensure effective coverage of appropriate Programmes of Study.
