Year 7 Catch-up Premium

About the Grant

The Department for Education has allocated approximately £500 per pupil for the number of year 7 pupils who did not achieve at least a level 4 in reading and/or mathematics at Key Stage 2. This is based on Key Stage 2 data and the autumn school census.

We assess the individual needs of each of the pupils who attract the year 7 catch-up premium and decide the best way to use the funding.

This money has previously been used to fund:

  • A reading intervention programme;
  • A handwriting intervention programme;
  • Small group intensive support on reading;
  • 1:1 support and intervention focussing on communication and social interactions;
  • The purchase of texts and resources for small, specifically focused classes in English and Mathematics.
  • The purchase of online maths subscriptions to improve engagement and raise reading attainment.
  • Further training for wider, dispersed support staff in reading and maths interventions.

The impact of the interventions are tracked through three progress data points throughout the year. Further intervention will be put in place following rigorous analysis of this data.
